Travelling with 10.000 Euro or more?

Obligation to declare when entering Germany

Anybody entering Germany carrying cash (cash money and securities) with a total value of 10.000 Euro or more is required to declare the cash to the competent national authorities. If entering from a non-EU member state, the declaration is to be lodged in writing with the customs administration.

The non-declaration or the false declaration of cash carried can result in a substantial fine of up to one million euros.

The obligation to lodge a declaration and the customs checks do not restrict the free movement of capital. Even in the future it will be possible to carry along unlimited amounts of cash without permission.

For more information and to obtain the relevant declaration forms please check the following page of the German customs authorities: .
